As of Thursday 28th August the last Thursday of each month will be set aside as a “match” evening. Players can play any 11 point league ladder matches on these evenings (and friendly matches). If you haven’t yet joined the league ladder you can do so via the link on this site.

John will bring his laptop along to the first match evening to help with registration / arranging matches / challenges if necessary.

There will be no round of “championship” one point games on match nights - although you may of coursr play “friendly” shorter games.

Fak Laight of Redditch is the inaugral Coventry Open Backgammon Tournament winner. Fak was a worthy winner being one of only four players not to recieve a bye into round two winning five tough eleven point matches on the way to the final (his opponents in order were Phil Tutchings, Richard Baldwin, Uldis Lapikens, Daniel Tutchings and Matthew Fisher in the Final. Matthew’s semi final against Marc Turner was a close thing with Matthew pipping Marc 11-10 after a last game race.

The 5pt consolation event was won by Dave Motley (beating Phil Tutchings in the final).

Paul Plumtre became the only Coventry club regular to claim a winner’s trophy beating Paul Ash in the 3pt Final.

Matthew Fisher took the 1pt event in his second final of the day beating Phil Tutchings.

Thanks to all that played (especially those coming from beyond Coventry), to Michael at Biba for the trophy donations - and to Peter Bennett and Uldis Lapikens for donating trophies back to Biba. Also thanks to Di for her help in administering the tournament and the staff at Whitefriars for providing the catering.

The general feeling was that a good day was had by all and hopefully this will become an established annual event.
